UN Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth, Alhendawi visited Symbosis

Ahmed Alhendawi visited the “To Triglav to change the world! Symbiosis intergenerational centre” to meet the Simbioza and Ypsilon Institute team. Both are examples of good practices in the field of intergenerational cooperation and proactive youth.

Whilst taking a look at the chambers of Symbiosis and the Ypsilon Institute, Ahmad Alhendawi got to know the projects under the auspices of Symbiosis and talked about the importance of intergenerational solidarity with the Ypsilon Institute’s directors.

On Monday, 11 March, the UN Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth, Ahmed Alhendawi visited the “To Triglav to change the world! Symbiosis intergenerational centre” and the Symbiosis and Ypsilon Institute chambers. Both are examples of good practices in the field of intergenerational cooperation and proactive youth.

The Envoy on Youth was received by Petra Kocjan, the director and Žiga Vavpotič, the expert director of the Ypsilon Institute, who introduced the operating of the intergenerational centre and other sustainable projects, which developed out of Symbiosis. They talked about the possibility of spreading the project Symbiosis abroad and what role could the UN play in this regard. Let’s take this opportunity to remind that Symbiosis was recently nominated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the UN Population Award. Alhendawi praised the team’s efforts for the past and current activities and ended the meeting by writing a thought on the glass wall of the Ypsilon Institute’s chambers that read: “This is a great example for how youth could be the engine for meaningful intergenerational solidarity, well done!”

The Envoy on Youth is currently at the third seminar of the Initiative on Mediation in the Mediterranean, where he is debating about the promotion of mediation culture and prevention of conflicts in the Mediterranean together with other high representatives of states, international organizations, experienced moderators and academia.
